Dawn of the Cyeclops
Dawn of the Cyeclops
Hi all, I am completely new to the digital painting side of art, started trying it out maybe 2 - 3 months ago, off and on, self taught, so no tutorials, just wanted to try it and jumped straight into it. I have always drawn in the past with pencils mostly, others with ball point pens. I started with trying to copy or portrait things from photos, 2 or 3 before trying my own original piece.

An older pencil piece :)
When all is gone, what remains?

RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
One of my first attempts at digital painting of my gf... remember no tutorials, just straight up attempts..

RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
A water drop I started but never seem to finish, didn't expect it to be so tedious lol

RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
And this is my first creation that I am currently trying to work on, Alien 612

RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
This concept of drawing in 30mins to 3hrs is something I really want to learn to do and get good at. Glad to be here with you all <3
RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
Hey! Welcome! Dude your work is seriously badass! You seem to be getting the hang of digital pretty fast. Another proof that when you have the base knowledge, the medium doesn't matter. Also I love your attention to detail! Keep us posted!
RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
Thanks!! :) and will do, Im a very slow drawer, so I think this will be good for me.
RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
It's really awesome! Great work! I'm constantly thinking about such stuff to do to improve my skills because at least half of the painting process is just a muscle memory (as for me at least), but it's every time about "oh, I want to finished that one" or "I just draw this one and then...". So you're really cool man and you're doing significant work here. Keep it up!!
RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
Thanks Sargt, I seem to be doing it a lot lately, not finishing pictures I start :/ and I'm finding this speed painting really difficult, because I'm obsessed with detailing, it's hard to let go... if that makes sense?
RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
It definitely makes sense. And I totally agree with you, because dealing with time and trying to pay attention to whole composition instead of making it more and more detailed are one of the main purposes for me to be here (and I hope that I've understood you correctly XD).
RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
Wow, your work looks really amazing! It really shows you've put some love in them :) Maybe starting with a 1 hour (or longer) sessions first to get a feeling of the time pressure would be a good idea? 30 is really too short maybe. 2/3 hours would be a good idea too because you can then make a first rough sketch of the overall painting and render one part (the part you want to be the focal point for example). If you choose for 1 hour or 30 min, It will be good to focus on the overall sketch and composition only just like Sargt said. :) 2/3 hours give you some extra time for rendering (which is one of your strenghts I think ^^ )
RE: Dawn of the Cyeclops
Thanks Bella, much appreciated advice :) I did a 1hr, and felt the pressure lol the sketch alone took over 25+mins, and colour is still a big hurdle for me, then perspective and backgrounds (probably my hardest) Perfection is a curse. I see and know what i want in my head, but it's not knowing the process or method to get it out, kind of frustrating when you want to be able to do it "NOW!!".

With the love in my art, I believe we as artists do breathe life into our works, which makes them so, and so they exist. Others should feel something when looking at art, emotions of harmony, love, fear, anger etc... otherwise it's empty and has no soul, like a dull song, I like music to move me. In that moment when you are neither here or there...between places, in that "zone"... we are truly free :)
